Google Forms Stadia Games and Entertainment to Develop First-Party Content

Google today revealed the formation of Stadia Games and Entertainment.

Google presented Stadia today as a path forward for the games industry. It shuns traditional platform practices such as consoles and local hardware in favor of cloud streaming. However, there’s one area where Google intends to copy Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo.

During today’s press conference, Google revealed they intend to pursue first-party content creation under the Stadia Games and Entertainment label. Similar to Sony Interactive Entertainment and Xbox Game Studios, Stadia Games and Entertainment will fund and publish all first-party content exclusively for the platform. Jade Raymond of Assassin’s Creed fame runs the publisher.

Google did not announce any new games coming from the publisher. However, Raymond did confirm the team is working with external studios to bring their titles to the platform. Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey appeared at various points during the conference. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot wore a Division 2 shirt to the keynote, which suggests it may come to Stadia. id Software took the stage to confirm Doom Eternal for Stadia.

Google confirmed that the platform’s launch lineup will be revealed later this summer.
