Polyphony Digital has revealed that dynamic time and weather have been cut from Gran Turismo Sport.

Dynamic time and weather were both features in Gran Turismo 5 and 6, but won't be returning for Sport. Producer Kazunori Yamauchi, in an interview with with GT Planet, confirmed that both features will be omitted. However, this doesn't mean different types of weather and time of day won't occur. All conditions will be preset before entering a race. According to Yamauchi, this was done to improve the technical proficiency of the upcoming game.

“We opted to not have the transitions in the race this time in order to raise the framerate and the quality of the image *during* the race. So the user will be able to set that before they enter the race. So you’ll still be able to have night races, morning, races at dawn, dusk, and so on.”

Gran Turismo Sport isn't the only racing simulator to embrace this idea. Last year's Forza Motorsport 6 introduced rainy and night tracks, but they were not dynamic like in Forza Horizon 2. This was specifically done to improve the game's performance. While Forza Horizon 2 ran at 1080p/30fps, Forza Motorsport 6 ran at 1080p/60fps. It is likely that Gran Turismo Sport is aiming for a similar performance. Cutting dynamic time and weather may be the best way to achieve this.

Gran Turismo Sport is out November 15 on PS4. Expect to hear a lot more about Gran Turismo Sport at E3 2016, which takes place June 14-June 16.
