After achieving one of the most successful launch days in video game history -- and earning over $800 million in the process -- Grand Theft Auto V has just hit the $1 billion mark, and only three days after its release.

"Grand Theft Auto is a cultural phenomenon and Rockstar Games continues to redefine what can be achieved in interactive entertainment," said Chairman and CEO of Take-Two, Strauss Zelnick. "We are incredibly proud of the extraordinary critical and commercial response to Grand Theft Auto 5."

The information comes by way of a Take-Two news release which also notes: "We believe this marks the fastest that any entertainment property, including video games and feature films, has reached this significant milestone."
