Guerrilla Games regrettably announced on Thursday that lead producer Patrick Munnik has passed away at the age of 44.

The Horizon Zero Dawn and Killzone Shadow Fall developer made the announcement in a heartfelt Twitter post.

“It is with great shock and sadness we inform you that our lead producer Patrick Munnik is no longer with us,” Guerrilla tweeted. “We are eternally grateful to have had our greatly valued and much-loved Patrick on our team.”

The news has stunned the gaming industry and many developers have come forward with tributes for the 44-year-old on social media.

Hermen Hulst, the managing director for Guerrilla, also took to Twitter to send out a touching message.

“My heart aches for Patrick’s wife and children. His reassuring presence, his great humor and, most importantly, his friendship will be sorely missed by our entire the [sic] team,” he tweeted.

Mr. Munnik spent over eight years at Guerrilla and notably worked on both Horizon Zero Dawn and Killzone Shadow Fall.

Details on Mr. Munnik’s cause of death have not been revealed.
