Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Niantic today announced Harry Potter: Wizards Unite.
The second Harry Potter game from WB Games and Portkey Games is another mobile title. Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is an upcoming augmented reality (AR) mobile game developed by Niantic. If that name sounds familair, it’s because Niantic is responsible for one of the biggest mobile games ever, Pokemon Go.
In Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, players utilize AR technology to locate fantastic beasts, meet iconic characters, unravel a mystery, and cast spells. It is unknown how the game plays, but it’s likely the game has some similarity with Pokemon Go.
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is the second Harry Potter game to come out of Portkey Games. The first, Hogwarts Mystery, received a rather negative response from fans and critics. Many took issue with the game’s excessive use of energy needed to complete tasks, and the microtransactions needed to quickly get more. It became a particular problem during an early sequence involving Devil’s Snare. If you didn’t have enough energy, it was possible to watch your character get strangled for hours while you waited. Hopefully, WBIE and Niantic can cool it on the microtransactions for Wizards Unite.
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is out in 2019.
