Microsoft and The Coalition today revealed the return of Horde mode in Gears 5.

First introduced in Gears of War 2, Horde Mode has quickly become a staple of the Gears of War franchise. The mode pits you and up to three other friends against waves of Locust and Swarm. Each game has ramped up the action and stakes, and Gears 5 looks no different.

Microsoft showcased the mode during their Inside Xbox live from Gamescom 2019 presentation. Gears 5’s Horde Mode ups the player count to five, but keeps most mechanics the same. Players will need to be aware of their environment, build traps, and work together to take down powerful Swarm enemies. New to the series are Ultimates, which offer some powerful abilities. JD can unleash airstrikes; Fahz can highlight enemies through walls and shoot through them with X-ray; Kait can Cloak; and Jack can hijack enemies.

Gears 5 is out September 10 on Xbox One and PC. Horde Mode is included with all copies of Gears 5.
