With the disappointing news that the first consumer-ready Oculus Rift model will be priced at a staggering $599 (USD), this opens up a new avenue for other VR competitors. There are really only two other VR headsets that stand a chance against the the Oculus: Sony’s PlayStation VR, and the HTC Vive. PlayStation VR will be exclusive to the PlayStation brand, while Oculus and Vive will be for PC.
HTC has told The Telegraph today that, while the price point has yet to be set for their Valve-collaboration device, they will begin to start taking pre-orders for the device starting February 29. The HTC Vive is scheduled to be released in April, a month after the Oculus Rift plans to make its debut, but hopefully we get a better idea of how much this VR future will run us.
