Today’s ID@Xbox Showcase has been all set to feature a bunch of promising games and new announcements, among them being the reveal of the first game from iam8bit’s new publishing label, iam8bit Presents. Since the 2000s, the company has championed the artistic side of video games and more in several, via art galleries, physical game releases, vinyl soundtracks, and more, and now they’re taking their next big step via publishing, helping to fund and promote original games. While the label did previously publish the Definitive Edition of Ori and the Will of the Wisps for the Switch, today sees the announcement of the first original game under the label: Escape Academy, an interactive mystery from developers Coin Crew Games.
Set in the titular academy, which is a training ground for those those with certain talents best suited for the “art of escape,” the game sees you playing as a new pupil attempting to become one of the Academy’s legendary Escapists. To do so involves visiting the many locations on the grounds, interacting with several quirky professors, and of course, trying to escape several deadly challenges while discovering the threats that lurk beneath the academy’s surface. You know, your typical school experience, just crossed with a ton of escape rooms. And since some folks find escape rooms to be more fun with friends, the game allows for local and online co-op as well.
Developed by veterans of various escape rooms and experiences focused around puzzle-solving, Escape Academy looks to be a blast for any fans of adventure games and escape rooms, and appears to be a promising start for both iam8bit Presents and Coin Crew (and another cap in the feather of Skybound Games, who will be help to co-publish things). Escape Academy is due out later this year on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms, and will be a day one Game Pass title for the latter.
