Focus Home Interactive and New World Interactive have announced Insurgency: Sandstorm for PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac OS X, and Linux.

Insurgency: Sandstorm is a brand new version of the developer's breakout hit, Insurgency. The developer is working hard to bring exciting new features, a complete graphical overhaul, and a focus on eSports. New World Interactive has opted to team up with Focus Home Interactive due to their knowledge for console distribution. New World retains all ownership of the brand and creative direction.

Sandstorm drops the Source Engine its predecessor used in favor of Unreal Engine 4 to give Sandstorm a major visual and technological overhaul. This is the first time an Insurgency game has appeared on consoles, and New World is looking to bring the unique and challenging gameplay of Insurgency in full to PS4 and Xbox One. That doesn't mean PC players are getting screwed over. Insurgency: Sandstorm will stay true to its PC roots, and players can expect a seamless transition from Insurgency to Sandstorm.

Insurgency Sandstorm will add a ton of new features. New World Interactive are developing the game with three things in mind; competitive multiplayer, console split-screen, and single player. A story mode is currently in development, depicting events from the 2003 invasion of Iraq up to the present day. The game's competitive multiplayer will a strong eSports component. Players can test the upcoming eSports framework in the current Source Engine version of Insurgency. The goal is to stress-test and improve the framework before the launch of Insurgency: Sandstorm. New World Interactive will be answering questions about the framework testing and Insurgency: Sandstorm this Saturday February 27 at 3pm EST on the official Insurgency Twitch.tv channel.

Insurgency: Sandstorm is currently penciled in for a 2017 release.
