Ubisoft and Ubisoft Motion Pictures have confirmed The Division is getting a film adaptation, and is starring two big names.

Tom Clancy's The Division is a relatively new IP, but Ubisoft is betting big on it. Ubisoft Motion Pictures is developing a film based on the game, and have announced that Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty, Interstellar) and Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler, Zodiac) will star. While this will be Chastain's first appearance in a game-to-film adaptation, this will be Gyllenhaal's second. He first appeared in Disney's 2010 Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time film, back before Ubisoft opened their own film studio.

Ubisoft didn't reveal much about the film, but did mention that both Chastain and Gyllenhaal have been part of the development process through their production companies, Freckle Films and Nine Stories, respectively. In terms of what the film could be about, Ubisoft has a lot of material to pull from. Though the game's story wasn't anything special, the backstory involving Manhattan's collapse and how it affected individual lives was very interesting.

The Division ties into Ubisoft's big plans to expand their business to the silver screen. They already have films planned based on the Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, Watch Dogs, and Rabbids IPs. The first film from Ubisoft, Assassin's Creed, hits theatres December 21.
