The late great John Madden passed away at the very end of 2021 and EA is aiming to help celebrate the life of the Hall of Fame coach and commentator. John Madden will be on the cover of Madden NFL 23 for the first time in over 20 years as EA has also dubbed June 1 as #MaddenDay which goes back to release of the original game back in 1988. There will be three unique covers for the game that highlight Madden as a broadcaster, NFL coach, and in art that has been created by Philly-based artist Chuck Styles.

There will be an Interactive Experience added to Madden NFL 23. Two versions of Coach Madden will lead opposing teams of "All Madden" athletes facing off in 1970s Oakland Coliseum. There will also be updated and remastered audio clips and voiceovers added to the game featuring Madden, himself. Lastly, EA is officially dedicating a renovated field at the EA HQ in Redwood Shores to Madden in a ceremony with the EA CEO, members of the Madden family, EA employees and more.
