According to Gamespot, there has been a falling out between Kojima Productions and owning publisher, Konami. This has lead to senior staff members having restricted access to internet, emails and phone.

According to Gamespot's informant, there was a power struggle between Kojima Productions and Konami resulting in these and more drastic changes. Members of the Metal Gear team have had their employee status changed and some senior members, including Kojima, are now essentially contractors.

From their source:

"After we finish MGSV, Mr. Kojima and upper management will leave Konami. They said their contract ends in December," the source claimed. The person added: "At a team meeting, Mr Kojima explained that team have to be one and make a good game for fans."

Konami has also began to remove Kojima Production logos from all official Metal Gear art and removed Kojima from their executive team. Kojima Productions has also had their branding removed from Twitter, Metal Gear Website, and a LA office listing.

Statement by Konami:

"As we have already announced, we are shifting our production structure to a headquarters-controlled system, in order to establish a steadfast operating base capable of responding to the rapid market changes that surround our digital entertainment business. Konami Digital Entertainment (including Mr. Kojima), will continue to develop and support Metal Gear products. Please look forward to future announcements."
