It's been a long time coming but Limited Run Games has finally started with the Switch release announcements. There are quite a few known Switch games coming from LRG, but today's reveal of the March 30 launch of Thimbleweed Park is the first one that has an actual date attached to it. This is important for a couple of reasons. First up, with the first Switch game on the schedule the rest are coming soon, and second is because Thimbleweek Park is going to be used as the test-case for Switch ordering numbers. Rather than the initial first-come first-served nature of LRG's normal release date, Thimbleweek Park is getting an open pre-order period during which anyone who wants a copy can get it. Limited Run Games has shied away from pre-orders in the past because direct experience has shown that when anyone can get something at their leisure it removes the sense of urgency and the numbers end up lower, which doesn't really help a small-press publisher stay in business. On the plus side, if Thimbleweek Park does well it may mean more pre-order windows in the future for Switch games.
On the Sony side of the equation is one announcement and the week's releases. First up is Pixel Gear, the very first PlayStation VR game. While not a top-tier title like Moss it's a start towards testing a new platform, and this is reflected in the 1,800-unit print run. Pixel Gear goes on sale March 21, no announced price as of yet. As for this coming Friday, it's definitely an oddball week. Nurse Love Addiction is a visual novel for the Vita being released in both regular (2300 copies) and deluxe (1,500 copies) editions. Organ Trail: Complete Edition is a modern-day zombified version of Oregon Trail, available on both PS4 and Vita at 3,000 units apiece. Finally there's Kero Blaster on PS4, a run & gun from the creator of Cave Story clocking in at 4,000 copies. The Switch is a new direction for Limited Run Games, but the regular systems are still going to get plenty of support so long as there are games that need a print run.
