Last week during the final Nintendo Direct dedicated to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate before its launch next month, Director Masahiro Sakurai revealed that there would be five additional characters joining the roster following the game’s release until February 2020.

This led to the usual rampant speculation that arises when developers announce that DLC characters are inbound, but Sora Ltd. has provided some insight on the decision process for the remaining additions. On Twitter, Sakurai elaborated that Nintendo was in-charge of the DLC lineup, separating it from how characters are selected for the launch roster, and that all five characters have already been determined. While there will still be plenty of theories on which five characters from Nintendo’s massive library of franchises will be making their first-time appearance in the Smash Bros. games, this Tweet does seem to indicate that the remaining fighters will primarily be first-party entrants, and will likely not be affected by the popularity of upcoming titles in the months to follow.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will land on Switch on December 7.
