Media Molecule today announced they're winding down support for their celebrated game creator, Dreams.

More than three years following its celebrated launch, Dreams is coming to an end. Media Molecule's ambitious game creator game launched early 2020 on PS4 to glowing reviews and a community hungry to play with the tools. While sales were not as high as their breakout hit, LittleBigPlanet, Dreams still led to some fantastic creations. Unfortunately, the dream will end September 1, 2023 when Media Molecule ends live support for the title.

"As we continue to evaluate and evolve our priorities for the studio and Dreams, we’ve made the difficult decision to discontinue live support for Dreams after 1st September, 2023 to shift our focus to an exciting new project. You’ll continue to be able to play, create and share Dreams with others after September, but we won’t be releasing any more updates to the game or events such as DreamsCom, All Hallows’ Dreams or the Impy Awards. We’re incredibly proud of the work we’ve done in developing Dreams - such as our content releases, Create updates and live events - and we are endlessly grateful to the community for their belief and continuous contributions since launch.

"Although this is challenging news we do have a few more updates on the way, including the much anticipated Tren, and a significant improvement to animation and our last Create mode update."

The end of Dreams comes without a native PS5 or PC version, ports players have been clamoring for over the years. It also means that the planned multiplayer features won't ever make an appearance. Given how popular other creator games like Roblox are on PC, it feels like a missed opportunity for the beloved creator.

As for Media Molecule's future plans, the studio says they're hard at work on a new project. What that project is remains a mystery.
