Back in January, Microsoft announced their intentions to allow players to partake in online multiplayer for free-to-play games without requiring an Xbox Live Gold subscription, after receiving backlash to a planned price hike for the subscription.

This restriction has felt particularly outdated in recent years, since players have never needed to subscribe to PlayStation Plus or Nintendo Switch Online in order to play free-to-play games on their respective platforms. Thankfully, Microsoft has finally made the necessary changes today and have removed the Xbox Live Gold requirement from over fifty free-to-play games that support online multiplayer on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, including the likes of Fortnite, Rocket League, Warframe and dozens of others, with the full list being located here.
