Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition has been a big hit as expected and a much-anticipated update is about to hit the game. It was revealed today that the Bedrock version of Minecraft will launch on June 21 for Nintendo Switch, both digitally on the eShop and physically at retail. Better yet, those who already own Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition will be able to digitally upgrade for free.

With the Bedrock update, Minecraft will be the first game on Switch to feature cross-play support across Switch, Xbox One, PC, Android and iOS.

“Bringing the definitive version of Minecraft to Nintendo Switch is a huge step forward in our journey to unite Minecraft players across any device,” said Phil Spencer, head of gaming for Microsoft.“We’ve worked closely with Nintendo to bring an amazing experience to the Nintendo Switch system’s dynamic and rapidly-growing ecosystem and couldn’t be more excited to deliver what Minecraft players have been asking for.”

Minecraft on Nintendo Switch will now also support achievements and Gamerscore, as well as allow Switch players to access the Minecraft Marketplace for the first time, where they can purchase unique maps, skins and texture packs.

“This new version of Minecraft offers players even more options to play anytime and anywhere on Nintendo Switch,” said Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime. “With previously released content like the Super Mario Mash-Up included, players everywhere can experience what it’s like when Minecraft meets the Mushroom Kingdom!”
