Back in the former part of 2013, CyberConnect2, best known for their work on the .hack series, let the cat out of the bag when CEO Hiroshi Matsuyama mentioned that a new game in the series was possibly forthcoming. While that talk only yielded the possibility of such development, Matsuyama has now confirmed that the studio is already hard at work on a new .hack installment.

It was during an anniversary event of another one of CyberConnect2's games that Matsuyama told journalists that a new .hack title would hinge upon the support of their new game, Guilty Dragon. In fact, he said that the more gamers show Dragon some love, the more likely it is to see an HD remake or an entirely new .hack title show up on the PlayStation 3 or Vita. To that end, Hiroshi said the following:

CyberConnect2 have already begun the planning for the latest installment of the .hack series, and it’s only a matter of time until we can make it a reality.

It's been a good number of years since we've seen a new .hack project. While the series has historically divided critics and fans, there's no denying that it's a huge franchise, both domestically and internationally. No doubt, it'd be great to see it in HD -- whether that be a remake or something totally new. At this point, we'll take either. It's just been far too long since we jacked into the The World. We need our fix, and we need it now.
