The director of the new Super Smash Bros. game, Masahiro Sakurai, already announced the game will be revealed at this year's E3. He followed up the news with more updates. Sakurai said "Wii U and 3DS versions -- I would like to show you both." This means the new game will be available for both consoles or possibly a cross-buy feature similar to PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.

Sakurai's Twitter profile is entirely in Japanese but we've been able to translate some tweets. "A moment ago on Nintendo Direct, it was announced that at this year's E3 that images of the newest Smash Brothers (on WiiU, 3DS) will be revealed to the public. Normally games are announced after images have been made, however this time the production announcement was made before, so unfortunately I will keep you waiting. However, I will produce a much better product than before."

At first we were promised to at least be shown some screenshots at E3, but it now looks like there might be actual game footage on the way. While summer and E3 are still months away, we'll keep warm knowing a Smash Bros. game is on the way.
