Nintendo Releases First Footage of Final Fantasy VII Running on Switch

Nintendo has dropped the first footage of the legendary RPG running on the Switch.

Last fall, Square Enix dropped a bombshell. Longtime PlayStation console exclusive Final Fantasy titles would be coming to Switch and Xbox One. Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster and Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age were obviously coming. What was most surprising was that PSX classic Final Fantasy VII was also making the leap. Now, we have footage of the game running on Nintendo’s hardware.

In a short 30 second ad, about half the ad is dedicated to Final Fantasy VII. The gameplay is pulled from the very beginning of the game where Cloud and Barrett fight off an enemy mech. Like the PS4 version, the game is presented in its original 4:3 aspect ratio.

While we know the other two remasters launch on Switch and Xbox One in April, Final Fantasy VII is still listed as ‘Coming Soon.’ Final Fantasy IX is also being ported to both consoles, but we have yet to see it running on either platform. We’ll let you know when Square Enix announces dates for VII and IX. A Final Fantasy VII Remake is currently in development for PS4.
