Nearly everyone was befuddled by Nintendo's decision to discontinue the NES Classic Mini after it flew off of store shelves last year. Many have speculated it as a marketing ploy for a release later down the road, but Nintendo has officially come out to speak on their decision.

“From our perspective, it’s important to recognize where our future is and the key areas that we need to drive,” said Nintendo President of America, Reggie Fils-Aime in an interview with Time. "We’ve got a lot going on right now and we don’t have unlimited resources.”

The NES Classic is a plug-and-play console that came with 30 NES games and included save state options. It was priced at 59.99 with an extra controller going for $10. Reggie added, "We just didn’t anticipate how incredible the response would be" in response to its shortage. A little while ago there were reports from Eurogamer that a SNES Classic is on the way, but that remains to be seen. In the meantime you can purchase used NES Classics from scalpers online at prices as high as $245.
