With the successful launch of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe towards the tail end of April, Nintendo Switch has seen it claim the top spot for the second consecutive month as the best-selling console in the US. According to NPD Group, the Switch sold through an estimate of 280,000 units in the States alone, aided by the popular racing series' similarly successful figures of 550,000 copies sold since launch -- 460,000 of which were physical and 90,000 digital.

If true, this would mean that without factoring in monthly sales for both Europe & Japan, the Switch will have already passed the three million mark in global hardware in just over the two months the console has been out. Nintendo had previously reported that the Switch had sold a total of 2.74 million consoles up until the end of March. It will be interesting to see how May fairs for both Switch hardware and software sales, given the notable lack of major first-party software expected to launch in the remainder of this month; the next Nintendo-made title will be ARMS which launches June 16 with Splatoon 2 arriving just over a month later.
