It may not be Holiday period yet, but Nintendo's recent fortune and run of good luck seems to be continuing on towards the end of the year with the company today confirming that the Switch has now sold more than two million consoles in the US alone which, if recent estimates of six million sold globally is accurate, equates to around a third of all hardware units since the console's release earlier in the year on March 3. No sales data for either Europe or Japan in terms of total Switch units sold, was provided though.

Backed up by the NPD Group -- whom track video game sales in America -- the Switch was also the best-selling current-gen console for the third month in a row and fifth month overall in 2017. Combined with the 3DS as well as the recently-released (and hard to find) Super Nintendo Classic Edition, Nintendo hardware equated to around two-thirds of all hardware sales in the month of September.

While not the most commercially-successful titles so far as total sales went, software for both the Switch & 3DS made up a hefty presence in the list of top selling games for September with first-party games such as Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe; third-party offerings such as Ubisoft's Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle; even 3DS titles such as Metroid: Samus Returns featuring highly. The year of course isn't over yet for Nintendo as tomorrow sees the release of Koei Tecmo's Fire Emblem Warriors which will be followed up shortly thereafter by the hugely-anticipated Super Mario Odyssey on October 27, with Xenoblade Chronicles 2 wrapping up what's been a fairly active year for Nintendo, on December 1.
