The release of each year’s EA football simulator often signifies the beginning of the holiday rush of new titles over the coming months, which usually takes place in the beginning of August.

While this remains true for the standard edition of Madden 20, which became available on August 2, the Superstar and Ultimate Superstar editions both launched on July 30, with the premium pricing offering early access and additional digital rewards. This two day period of sales for the higher-priced version of the game was (impressively) enough for Madden 20 to reach the top spot of the NPD Group’s best-selling games of July 2019, as well as the eighth place spot for the highest-selling games of 2019 overall. Meanwhile, the Switch also saw plenty of success last month, as the hybrid platform continued to top hardware sales and saw a number of exclusive titles in the top ten of software sales, including new July releases Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order in the second and fourth spots respectively, with Super Mario Maker 2 stuck in-between at number three.
