Last month was filled to the brim with new releases, offering something for all players no matter which genre they prefer.

As a result, last month’s NPD Group report is equally packed with new September releases, with four of the top five and eight of the top ten entries in the best-selling software list being brand-new launches. NBA 2K20 took the top spot for the month as well as the top spot for the best-selling title of 2019, knocking off Mortal Kombat 11 and establishing NBA 2K as the sixth best-selling franchise in history. Borderlands 3 also had an impressive debut in second place for September, making it the third best-selling game of 2019. New September releases FIFA 20 and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening came in third and fourth respectively, with Madden NFL 20 rounding out the top five. Ghost Recon: Breakpoint’s emergence at sixth is particularly noteworthy considering it was only tracked for five days worth of sales, managing to surpass earlier September releases Gears 5, Code Vein and NHL 20, which arrived at seventh, eighth and ninth respectively.
