Despite a large portion of attention over the past 24-or-so hours veering towards The Game Awards (for good reasons this year, thankfully) it hasn't stopped Big Red Barrels -- the developers behind the Outlast series -- from dishing out some interesting news today. Posting on the series' official Facebook page with the accompanying image below showing both games running in handheld mode, the studio have confirmed that both the original Outlast and its sequel, Outlast 2, will be coming to Nintendo Switch sometime in Q1 of 2018.

Further afield, the studio also discuss the future of the series, confirming that they currently have no plans for DLC to the sequel but are in fact underway with the development of a new title in the same universe, as well as hinting at the prospect of an Outlast 3 sometime in the future. "Currently we’re working on something a lot of you have been asking for..." the developer states. "It won’t be a sequel to Outlast or Outlast 2, but it will be a distinct experience set in the Outlast universe. We can’t say more right now, we first need to make sure we can make it work. Like I mentioned, we strive to be risk-takers and this one is a pretty big challenge. If all goes well, we’ll soon be able to reveal more."

Outlast originally released in 2013 for PC with console iterations for both PS4 & Xbox One following in February and June 2014 respectively. Outlast 2 launched simultaneously across all three of these platforms in April of this year.
