Hi-Rez Studios, developer of the popular mythological MOBA Smite, have announced that their latest title, a hero shooter by the name of Paladins: Champions of the Realm, is coming to PS4 and Xbox One.

Currently available as an Early Access title on Steam as of two weeks ago, Paladins hopes to capitalize off the recent success of games like Overwatch and Battleborn by offering a free-to-play version of a similar experience, featuring a varied roster of seventeen heroes. According to Hi-Rez, over a million people have checked out the pre-release version of Paladins so far, and that the console version of the game will stand right alongside “any big-time multiplayer shooter that you enjoy most on console”. This is a seemingly bold claim for a free-to-play game, and it will be intriguing to see how the console community reacts to the impending release.

As previously mentioned, Paladins: Champions of the Realm is currently free as an Early Access title on Steam, with the closed beta for the PS4 and Xbox One versions hitting “soon”. Those interested in checking out the console version of Paladins as soon as possible can sign up for the closed beta here.
