While Williams and Gottlieb were the most well-known pinball manufacturers back in the 80s and 90s, there have always been smaller companies putting their own stamp on the industry.  Alvin G. and Company didn't have the catchiest name but they made some decent tables, with Pistol Poker being their last.  It got a tiny little 200 unit run and that was the end of it, making for a very rare machine that deserved better than to be forgotten.  The cowboy poker theme is hackneyed (at best), but the layout features some good target shooting and clever mechanics across it's two-level playfield.  Hitting lit shots builds a card hand, starting with basic pairs and building from there, and you need to hit a ramp shot to collect the hand and then a different set of ramps to claim the reward, which is a lit card on the backglass building towards a royal flush.  The table looks a bit simple at first glance but has a lot going on, and while it may not have the top-tier feel of a Williams board it's also more than just a lost curiosity from a small pinball developer.  Now Pistol Poker is available in The Pinball Arcade, giving it access to a much wider audience than would have had access before.
