After two years of development, PlatinumGames is concluding their role in the development of Granblue Fantasy: Relink. The studio was co-developing the game with Cygames as an action-RPG spin-off of their partner's popular Granblue Fantasy mobile RPG series. Fans of said series needn't fret though; the game is still coming. It's just that development is solely in the hands of Cygames now.

PlatinumGames issued an official statement on their blog thanking fans for their interest in the game and laying out exactly what's going on. "While we, PlatinumGames, have been working with Cygames in co-development of the upcoming console game Granblue Fantasy: Relink, we officially announce our contract on the project has come to an end. Development will still continue, but be handled solely by Cygames’ internal development team."

Given the wording here, it looks like PlatinumGames was only ever going to be involved for a portion of the game's development, so it's not like this is a sudden dismissal or anything. Given that the game is an action-RPG, PlatinumGames was probably contracted to handle the combat and systems surrounding it; flashy, fun combat is their specialty after all. Of course, this isn't at all confirmed at the moment. It's just an educated guess.

Granblue Fantasy: Relink will eventually be coming to PlayStation 4. No release date has been announced as of yet.
