It’s hard to believe that there was a time Pokémon was so popular in America that a two-level store opened in the Rockefeller Center in New York City completely dedicated to the brand, but that’s exactly what Nintendo did with their Pokémon Center. Tragically, the store closed in 2005 and re-opened soon thereafter as a general Nintendo World store and the Center was never to be heard from again in North America…until now.
On August 6 (and July 2 for select items), The Pokémon Company International will re-open Pokémon Center as an online store. The website will be a hub for all sorts of Pokemon merchandise including plushes, t-shirts, phone cases and more.
Pokemon has had a major resurgence lately — what with an upcoming concert tour and iTunes hub — almost certainly due to the fact that the its original fanbase has reached adulthood and hungry to relieve their childhood.
Check the store out here when it opens — we’ll make sure to update you when it goes live to the public.
[UPDATE 7/2 1:47 PM PST] Pokémon Center is now open for business with select items. A handful of new items will be available each week leading up to its August 6 grand opening.
