The Pokémon Company announced today that the franchise's most recent pair of games, Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, have shipped over 7.7 million units worldwide. The news comes after the games' launch in Europe last week, following their release everywhere else on November 21.

Nintendo and developer Game Freak are sure to be happy with those numbers, especially considering the holiday season has only just begun. With a bit of luck and some nostalgia-fueled purchases, Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire may well go on to sell more than the games they were modeled after, Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire, which sold 16.22 million units collectively. If anything, this announcement confirms one thing: Pokémon isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
