PS4 Breaks Records With Over 2.1 Million Units Sold

It has been over two weeks since the PlayStation 4 hit North America, and less than a week since it arrived elsewhere in the world, but Sony’s latest system is flying off store shelves. SCE President Andrew House has announced today that, as of December 1, the PlayStation 4 has sold over 2.1 million units worldwide (at least in North America, Latin America, Europe and Australasia). We’re not talking sold to retailers; we’re talking sold directly to customers.

This marks the biggest PlayStation launch in Sony’s history. Considering sales numbers of the past generations were significantly less, and the system isn’t even out in Japan yet, this no doubt bodes well for Sony. The new generation is off to a grand start, so here’s hoping for better and more diverse experiences within the gaming space for the next five to eight years.
