Just three months ago, Sony was bragging about their impressive month of console sales from December 2022, which helped bump the total number of PlayStation 5 consoles sold to over thirty million.

Now, as predicted by president of Sony Interactive Entertainment Jim Ryan at the time, PS5 consoles have become far easier to acquire this year, leading to 6.3 million units of the latest Sony console being shipped from January 1 through March 31, 2023, culminating in a grand total of 38.3 million consoles shipped to date. While this doesn’t fully reflect how many PS5s have actually been sold, the historic first quarter figure is now the all-time record for total consoles shipped during the first three months of the calendar year by any console manufacturer. With Spider-Man 2 still slated to launch later this year as a PS5 exclusive and rumors of a substantial State of Play in the coming months, 2023 could prove to be a landmark year for the Sony platform.
