Resident Evil: Revelations 2 will have micro-transactions, but only in the Raid mode. While the inclusion of micro-transactions in fully-paid games continues to be an outrageous offense, at least Revelations 2 will not include them in the story mode.

Reports from a European press event leaked out this morning confirming that Resident Evil: Revelations 2 would support micro-transactions. Even worse, the reports indicated that you would need to pay to keep playing after your character dies. Obviously this did not sit well with anyone, especially since Resident Evil: Revelations 2 is a game you have to pay for just to play.

Thankfully, Capcom has quickly swooped in and killed a part of the report. There are no micro-transactions in story mode.

“There are no micro-transactions within the main campaign,” a Capcom PR representative told Kotaku.

Micro-transactions are in the game, but are used exclusively in Raid mode. There you will have to use crystals to revive your downed character.

“Blue life crystals can be earned through playing daily missions and red life crystals can be bought.

“The two crystals act the same, but there’s an option to buy if players run out of blue (earned) crystals or don’t want to spend the time earning them. If players have both blue and red crystals, the game will prioritize the blue crystals over the red ones.”

It's good that Capcom was able to quickly kill this report. While I don't think micro-transactions have any place within any game you have to pay up-front for, at least the story mode won't be affected in any significant way.
