When Sam Drake made his debut in the Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End gameplay reveal yesterday, it was instantly clear Troy Baker was voicing Nathan’s older brother. Of course, simply guessing Troy Baker would have given you a 75% chance of being right without even hearing the voice, so his addition to the game — or any game — doesn’t come as much of a shock. What is interesting, however, is the fact that Todd Stashwick confirmed he was originally cast in the role.
Ironically to anybody outside of the video game or anime industry, Stashwick is the bigger name, appearing in small roles in multiple television shows and games.
The most interesting thing of all this, however, is the fact that Stashwick did the narration in the Uncharted 4 teaser. The narration stated:
“Some chains can never be broken. I lost fifteen years, buried alive, erased. You left me, rotting in that hell-hole and never looked back. But you can’t outrun the past. And when it catches up, when all your lies collapse around you, I’ll be there, sifting through the wreckage. You owe me.”
Clearly, the person speaking those words is the antagonist (and probably main villain) of Uncharted 4. If Stashwick did the narration in the teaser and Troy replaced him for the role of Sam Drake, it seems logical that Sam Drake is who was speaking those words in the trailer.
What exactly Nathan did to Sam to incur this wrath or why he did it is unclear, but it seems we’re in store for quite the dysfunctional family.
