Legendary's live-action Detective Pikachu film is one of those projects you may have forgotten was still in the works, even though it has made some notable strides in the past year. Rob Letterman was announced as the director, Alex Hirsch and Nicole Perlman are currently behind the script, and Justice Smith and Kathryn Newton will play two of the human leads. But ever since this film was first unveiled, everyone has been wondering who will be voicing the title role, a hard-boiled Pikachu detective with the power to speak. Today, though, we finally have our answer, and in a rather unexpected show of star power, it turns out our Pikachu will be voiced by none other than Ryan Reynolds.

While the majority of folks were hoping for Danny DeVito in the role, the famed star of Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place landed the role instead, which will be motion-capture in nature, according to sources. In all seriousness, this is an interesting choice for giving one of the most iconic characters in gaming and pop culture a voice, although we still know very little about the film itself, including a planned release window and any plot beyond the basic premise of investigating the disappearance of a kid's father. One thing is certain, though...between now and the film's release date, expect roughly 21,767 pieces of fan art mashing up Pikachu and Deadpool.
