Yacht Club Games have earned huge critical acclaim for their superb Shovel Knight game, but we shouldn't forget that the original crowdfunding effort for the game had its share of stretch goals. Now, one of the stretch goals has been revealed, and it features a lovable enemy from the game.

Yacht Club Games announced Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows on their website today. The free update to the Shovel Knight game has players taking the role of Plague Knight. In an effort to create the powerful Serum Supernus potion, Plague Knight must gather the ingredients by defeating his former allies, The Order of No Quarter.

Yacht Club Games say that Plague Knight will have a "new play style, new story, new bosses, and more." The details revealed so far include Plague Knight's potions, which can be used for explosives or even "bomb jumps" to gain altitude. One new addition is crafting, where Plague Knight can use alchemy to develop new potions, equipment, and power-ups. Yacht Club Games also promise new paths through classic levels featuring Plague Knight's abilities.

Anyone attending PAX East will also be able to play the demo of Plague of Shadows at the Yacht Club Games booth. No official release date has been announced for Plague of Shadows, nor the platforms it will be coming to first, though Playstation fans will be able to check out the original Shovel Knight on PS3, PS4 and Vita later this year. Check out Plague Knight in all his tainted glory in the images below!

UPDATE: Yacht Club Games has clarified to us that Plague Knight's campaign will not feature new levels, but instead alternate paths through classic Shovel Knight levels. The original story has been altered with this new information.
