There’s no company, management or boss who has more power than that of a fan. A partnership between the father of the Metal Gear series, Hideo Kojima, and master of all things horror, Guillermo del Toro, Silent Hills was a highly anticipated addition into the Silent Hill series. The game would have also featured the voice and representation of The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus as the main protagonist. All features that sounded like a recipe for horror filled greatness to keep us up at night.

Fans of Silent Hill had hoped that Silent Hills would be the game to return the franchise to its former glory in the horror genre, after a (downpour) of second-rate sequels. But all hope for the acclaimed rebirth to bring the series back to its core had recently been denied to us after the cancellation of the game earlier this week. Hope is not yet lost, however; the power of fandom can go a long way in social media and the entertainment world once it gains traction and one petition is certainly on its way.

Here is the quickly growing petition that has been posted on Change.org:

“Dear Hideo and Guillermo,

hearing the cancellation of one of the most anticipated horror games is about the most heartbreaking thing horror fans had to swallow this year.

Since the first sight of the P.T Demo it was instant love, and it burned into the minds of everyone that this had to release at some point.

Although the reasons are not yet announced I am begging you along with countless others: Please continue the Development on Silent Hills, if the issue is money related, we would love to see a Crowdfunding campaign like Kickstarter to ensure you are getting all the financial help there is! We´d love to see it happen at some point and want to thank you for all the great games you have released so far!

Greetings

-Yauheni”

The petition is concentrated to gaining Kojima and Del Toro’s attention, but the fate of the late Silent Hills is most likely out of their hands and trapped firmly in the grasps of Konami and the company’s well-hidden troubles. Konami was recently delisted from the New York Stock Exchange foreshadowing a potential buyout that maybe coming to the company fairly soon.

It’s clear that as of right now the Silent Hills game will be nothing more than that, silent. At least for now, until Kojima is legally allowed to speak of the sudden cancellation of a sure fire game of the year contender and his sudden departure from the company.
