Killzone: Mercenary and RIGS: Mechanized Combat League developer Guerrilla Cambridge has been shuttered.

Sony has confirmed that they are closing the Guerrilla Cambridge development studio. According to Sony, the move was made after reviewing all the current PlayStation projects and resources. Unfortunately, Guerrilla Cambridge drew the short end of the stick. The publisher has confirmed that all staff will be laid off, but that the publisher is working to reallocate personnel to other projects, or working to get them hired at other local studios. Sony has confirmed that none of their other studios will be affected by this move.

"Whilst we accept that this decision will mean that we risk losing high calibre staff, by focusing on other Studios with exciting new projects in development, (including continued work on PlayStation VR), we believe we will be in a stronger position going forward and able to offer the best possible content of the highest quality to our players," Sony said in a statement to GamesIndustry.biz.

"This decision should not take anything away from the incredible games and services that Guerrilla Cambridge has delivered."

Guerrilla Cambridge, originally Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Cambridge Studio, was in the business of making games for 19 years. The studio originally gained fame for its work on the MediEvil franchise. In recent years, the studio was put on projects to showcase Sony's newest hardware. This includes the excellent Killzone: Marcenary for PS Vita and RIGS: Mechanized Combat League for PlayStation VR. The studio was renamed Guerrilla Cambridge in 2013 as it was finishing up development on Killzone: Mercenary.

We send out our best wishes to all employees affected by this closure.
