Square Enix today clarified that Shadow of the Tomb Raider will not run at a 4K resolution at 60fps.
The Xbox One X may be the most powerful console ever, but it's still not quite powerful enough to run Shadow of the Tomb Raider in 4K at 60fps. Square Enix today confirmed this is the case a day after Eidos Montreal Studio Head David Anfossi said it would. According to the publisher, Anfossi's statement was a miscommunication. While Shadow of the Tomb Raider will feature 4K and 60fps, players will have to give up one for the other.
In a statement to Windows Central, Square Enix revealed that Xbox One X players will be able to choose 4K at 30fps, or 1080p at 60fps. Both modes will feature HDR, improved physically-based rendering, hardware tessellation, and more. Crystal Dynamics offered similar options in Rise of the Tomb Raider on Xbox One X.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is out September 14 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. No word yet on what options PS4 Pro owners can expect.
