The release of the visually-interesting (but interesting in general) Octopath Traveler is little more than a month away and if you were worried that Square Enix’s Switch-exclusive offering may be just a one-off, well the publisher may have some good news on that front. Speaking to Game Informer, Tomoya Asano — division executive at Square Enix — states that the publisher has decided on establishing a new internal studio that will dedicate its resources in creating new IP/projects for the Switch. What’s more, Asano has confirmed that the team are already underway on several new projects.

"Square Enix has decided that it wants to focus on original titles for the Switch," he explains. "If Octopath Traveler does well and this is something that appeals to fans, we want to focus on Switch...there are several other titles that we're currently working on for Switch," he says. "If you could just wait a bit longer, we'll work with Nintendo and announce them in the future."

Obviously, Asano didn’t provide any kind of information or suggestion as to what these new projects may be but nonetheless it’s good news to hear of a publisher like Square Enix showing considerable support for the Switch in the near future. Octopath Traveler will be available exclusively for Nintendo’s platform on July 13.
