It’s always exciting when major developers and publishers file trademarks for software titles. After all, this is how we found out about Entwined earlier this year. Some intelligent digging has revealed that Square Enix has filed a Computer Game Software trademark in Europe for “Masters of the Mask,” a title that just oozes JRPG.
Because of the success of Bravely Default, Square Enix has stated that the company wants to go back to creating software similar to the titles that put it on the map in the first place. Square Enix rose to prominence through the likes of the Final Fantasy series and Chrono Trigger (developed and published by the previously-named Square), so it’s been troublesome to see them publish sales busts like the recent Hitman: Absolution. If “Masters of the Mask” is indeed another JRPG, it shows that Square Enix is actually following through on its promises.
