Kingdom Hearts III director Tetsuya Nomura has confirmed that there are no plans to release the game on Nintendo Switch at the moment.

D23 2017 was huge for Kingdom Hearts III news. Not only did we get a look at new world based on Toy Story, but we also got confirmation that the game will finally launch in 2018. Of course, there's still a lot of mystery surrounding the game. What isn't much of a mystery is whether or not there will be a Nintendo Switch version of the game. Simply put, no, there is not plans for a Switch version.

Speaking with IGN, director Tetsuya Nomura confirmed that his team is working on getting the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Kingdom Hearts III out the door. While he won't rule out a Switch version sometime in the future, his team wouldn't approach it till after the other versions launch.

“The Nintendo Switch is definitely a very interesting piece of hardware, but if we lightly say, ‘Oh yeah, we’ll be on the Nintendo Switch,’ I’m sure people will come back and say, ‘But what about the PS4 and Xbox One? We want them out first. Don’t focus on other platforms.’ So for now, we want to focus on what platforms we’ve already announced we’re going to be releasing Kingdom Hearts 3 on. And so after, perhaps, maybe we can start thinking about other possibilities.”

Nomura was also asked about  whether or not Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix and Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue will be ported to Xbox One. A sprawling franchise with a convoluted plot, Xbox One owners are being thrown into the deep-end with Kingdom Hearts III. Unfortunately, those collections will remain PS4 exclusives for the foreseeable future. Nomura commented that, in addition to focusing on Kingdom Hearts III, he isn't sure there's much demand in the West for the remasters on Xbox One.

“Just like with the previous answer, if we were to announce yet another non-Kingdom Hearts III [project]...people are going to be like, ‘Hey, what’s going on?’ So we will want to focus on releasing on the platforms that we have already announced."

Kingdom Hearts III is set for release sometime in 2018 on PS4 and Xbox One. Expect to hear more about the game at Tokyo Game Show 2017.
