EA and DICE today pulled back the curtain on their plans for The Rise of Skywalker content in Star Wars Battlefront II.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker marks the end of the long-running Skywalker Saga. Bringing the story to a conclusion will be a challenge for director J.J. Abrams and the team at LucasFilm. However, it'll be up to DICE to give us an authentic way to experience the battles from the film. As such, the studio has revealed what players can expect from the upcoming Rise of Skywalker update.

First up is the new location, an unnamed jungle planet. It's the same jungle planet featured in the film's numerous trailers. Unfortuntely, at launch, there's only two ways to experience the new planet. You can either tackle it in co-op or Heroes vs. Villains. There'll be no Galactic Assault or Capital Supremacy variant when the map arrives December 20. Capital Supremacy won't arrive until January. On a side-note, all currently released Sequel Era maps join the co-op rotation

The armies of the Resistance and First Order get a boost with the addition of new reinforcements. On the Resistance's side we have the Gunner and Spy units. Meanwhile, the First Order get the Sith Trooper and Jet Trooper. The reinforcements, alongside new appearances for Rey, Finn, and Kylo Ren arrive December 17.

That's all for launch, but players can expect more in January. In addition to Capital Supremacy on the jungle planet, the mode will also come to Jakku. Both locations join Instant Action.

Two new heroes join the roster, but they aren't who you expect. Despite fans asking for the likes of Ahsoka Tano and Asajj Ventress, DICE opted to bypass them and obvious Sequel Trilogy characters for two weird picks. The droids BB-8 and BB-9E join the Light Side and Dark Side, respectively, in January.

Star Wars Battlefront II is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. A Celebration Edition that includes all previously released content launches December 5.
