2013 is the year of Luigi. Because of this, Nintendo is going to great lengths to give the unappreciated plumber the recognition he has deserved for decades. First we got Luigi's Mansion, and now comes New Super Luigi U. While the Big N has talked about this title for quite some time now, they hadn't shared a release date for it. That changed in today's Nintendo Direct, though.

New Super Luigi U will be launching on June 20 on the Wii U eShop for $19.99, as DLC for folks who already own New Super Mario Bros. U. For those that don't own that game, don't fret: a standalone retail release will launch about eight weeks later, on August 25. This version will not require players to have NSMB U, and will retail for ten dollars more than its DLC counterpart, at $29.99. The game's boxart can be viewed below.
