In little over a few days since it was released late last June, Super Mario Maker 2 -- the Switch follow-up to the 2015 create-a-level spin-off in the Mario series, on the Wii U -- has sold more than two million copies. Nintendo made the announcement earlier today during their own earnings release for the first quarter of this financial year, and while the game released close to the end of the recorded three month period, Super Mario Maker 2 very quickly, and easily, passed its first major milestone, reaching total sales of around 2.42 million units.

Elsewhere, the platform's surprising highest-seller, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, continues to ship copies, with an additional 1.2 million units sold during the same period -- meaning the game is now up to 17.89 total copies sold. Below that in the ranking of highest-selling games for the Switch, the gap between second-place, Super Mario Odyssey, and Super Smash Bros Ultimate in third place, narrowed. The former now standing at 14.94 million copies, with the latter only roughly 210,000 units behind at 14.73 million.
