It’s in no way surprising that a new Mario game sells well, no matter what platform it’s on. And while traditional platforming entrants — which Nintendo’s beloved mascot has long been famous for — have always done well critically too, let alone commercially, the monumental success of Super Mario Odyssey for the Nintendo Switch has now been further detailed and thus cemented. Nintendo have today confirmed during their annual fiscal year earnings that Mario’s latest 3D adventure has now sold in excess of ten million copies, or 10.41 million to be exact, less than six months from its release on October 27 last year. It was previously reported that the game had managed to reach two million sales in less than three days of release.

While Odyssey still has some catching up to do if it wants to match the sales of its nearest series rival, Super Mario Bros. 3, itself clocking in an estimated 17.3 million copies sold. It maintains Odyssey’s position as the best selling game on the Switch however, with just over a million unit lead over the second-highest selling entrant, coincidentally another fellow Mario-related title in the form of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild completes Nintendo’s trio of first-party successes, itself now having sold nearly eight-and-a-half million copies since its release on launch day, March 3.
