Super Mario Run Hits iPhone, iPad this December

Nintendo has revealed the release date for Super Mario Run, the first mobile game to star one of the most iconic video game characters of all time.

Nintendo’s red plumber is one of the most iconic video game characters of all time, but you could only play his games on Nintendo devices. Well, that all changes December 15 when Super Mario Run launches on iOS devices.

Super Mario Run is the first Super Mario Bros. game developed with mobile devices in mind. In-game, Mario will run automatically with players taping the screen to get him to jump over obstacles, avoid enemies, and collect coins with the goal of reaching the flagpole to complete courses. The game was developed under the watchful of eye of creator Shigeru Miyamoto, so fans should expect a real Mario experience.

“The wait is almost over for a Super Mario game that can be played on mobile devices,” said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “Developed under the direction of Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto, Super Mario Run brings a new take on the series’ beloved action-platforming gameplay to iPhone and iPad for the first time.”

Super Mario Run is out December 15 on iOS devices running iOS 8 or later. The game will cost a flat rate of $9.99, which gets you the full game. There will be no microtransactions or any other free-to-play elements.
