Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz Getting HD Treatment for PC, Consoles

It’s been nearly a full decade since we last had a console iteration on Sega’s surprisingly-enjoyable platformer series, Super Monkey Ball — the last original title to feature on consoles being Super Monkey Ball: Step & Roll for the Wii all the way back in 2010 — but from out of nowhere, Sega today revealed that a HD remaster of one of the series’ past titles will be making its way to both consoles and PC. Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz, it too originally debuting on the Wii in 2006 — will make its way to PS4, Xbox One & Switch this October, in the form of a HD touch-up, with a PC version to follow thereafter.

Alongside what it claims to feature updated graphics, the game will also come with online leaderboards as well a brand new Decathlon modes for its accompanying mini-games — an area of which was also surprisingly entertaining — which sees players compete in ten mini-games back-to-back. While it may not be either one of the first two games from the Gamecube era, arguably the series’ best efforts, it’s nonetheless pleasing to see Sega revisit the IP after so long. Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz will be available for consoles starting October 29. The game is currently slated to hit the PC sometime in the Winter of this year.
