Nintendo has confirmed that Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is the fastest-selling Wii U game in the U.S. beating Mario Kart 8.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U launched November 28, 2014 in the U.S. and has sold over 490,000 copies between Friday and Monday. Previous record-holder, Mario Kart 8, is now the second fastest-selling Wii U game in the country. Sales for the Super Smash Bros. franchise have now surpassed 14 million units.

“The Nintendo holiday is off to a great start, but there’s a lot of work left to do and a few more surprises in store for our fans,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “With great deals coming on Black Friday and Cyber Monday and great content like Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker launching next week, Nintendo will offer shoppers the best combination of fun and value this holiday season.”

This fantastic news comes right ahead of Black Friday, the biggest shopping day of the year in the country. Nintendo is betting heavily on Super Smash Bros. for Wii U to move hardware this holiday season. The Wii U, which is now two years old, is lagging behind the PS4, and the Xbox One has recently pulled neck-and-neck with it.
